Tu 160 (NATO:Black Jack) and India

Indian Navy has been offered Tupolev 22 M3/MR strategic strike platforms to replace their ageing Tu 142 "Bear" and Ilyushin 38 aircrafts.Detailed analysis shows that Russian Tu 160 (NATO:Black Jack)offers several advantages over the offered aircraft and may be available as Navy's requirement is small and Tu 160 production has started and additional funds are welcomed .The Russians on their part have never been hesitant to transfer strategic platforms to India (except the sell of cryogenic engines used to manufacture engines of GSLVs and also in Inter Continental Ballistic Missiles; and the sell of long ranged cruise missiles since Russia is a signatory of MTCR,which restricts the sell of long ranged missiles above 300 kms)
India acquired a strategic manned airborne dimension with the entry of  Tu 142 Bear F long ranged maritime patrol / antisubmarine warfare aircraft in 1988. It is fitted with state of art Korshun-k automatic search and sighting systems and MMS 106 Ladoga magnetometer to detect stealthy nuclear powered submarines.

Tu 22 M3 is a strategic bombing / maritime strike platforms and Tu 22 MR  is a reconnaissance oriented platform.
Also the Tu 160 is presently the supersonic strategic bomber  with a range of 14000 kms..
